Welcome to Pusteblume International Preschool!

I sincerely believe that for the child … it is not half so important to know as to feel.
Für das Kind ist es nicht halb so bedeutsam zu wissen als zu fühlen.
~Rachel Carson~

After four long years of labor and love of community volunteerism and donations, we succeeded in opening the first of its kind, non-profit, German and Spanish language preschool in Manhattan.  We couldn’t be happier with the space, a beautiful, newly-renovated, centrally-located facility on 14th Street in Chelsea.  People from all over New York City, including Brooklyn, Long Island City, Queens as well as Jersey City and Hoboken are able to get to us easily with our proximity to the 1,2,3, A,C,E, L, and Path trains.

We created Pusteblume with both the parent and child in mind – providing flexibility for working parents as well as parents who stay at home with their children but want them to have some days interacting with other children in a multilingual environment.  What sets us apart from all the other German language programs out there, is that we are a non-profit institution.  This means that every dime of extra revenue we make goes right back into making the school even better for our children and the community at large.

Another exciting development: in step with our goal to grow into an international school, we have added Spanish to our multi-cultural offerings. Our full-time Spanish immersion program is available for your children ages 3-5 years as well as enrichment programs for our German-speaking children.

Please contact us for information on the different, flexible options we offer as well as admissions documents, enrollment forms and tuition schedules.

Pusteblume International Preschool admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Our Philosophy

Pusteblume International Preschool has one main objective: to provide children with a multicultural environment where instruction in the German & Spanish languages will serve as a catalyst for the development of each child’s unique cultural identity. This is in recognition of the fact that bilingualism is critical for any child’s optimal cognitive development and for a child’s adequate preparation for living in an increasingly multicultural and international world.

Our school focuses on providing quality instruction that cultivates growth and development of preschool children, by taking an interdisciplinary approach to a multicultural education.  With the help of our licensed, native-speaking, early childhood educators, we provide a safe and nurturing environment that allows young minds to widely explore their abilities.  We apply the most recent research-based methods in early childhood education to foster curiosity, develop trust and nurture independence.  We strive to achieve excellence in early childhood education by combining international, national, and New York State educational standards, and our curriculum combines the best practices in early childhood education approaches from the U.S.,  German-speaking, and Spanish-speaking countries. We believe that the highest level of success is achieved through an active and productive relationship between educators, parents and children.

Our Mission

Pusteblume provides each child with a bilingual education in a nurturing, safe and supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, confidence, respect, creativity and excellence in learning by following a curriculum based on inquiry and play.  In this spirit, Pusteblume prepares students to be world citizens and lifelong learners.  By partnering with parents and the community, we strive to develop our children’s self-sufficiency and to help them succeed and contribute responsibly in the global community.

Our Vision

It is our hope that Pusteblume International Preschool will become an indelible landmark on the existing landscape of Manhattan preschools.  Pusteblume will be an accredited institution offering a world-class curriculum, and it aims to eventually open more locations in New York City.  Additionally, Pusteblume plans to support and partner with a larger initiative underway by the Friends of the German International School of New York, Inc. to build a K-12 international school in Manhattan with German as one of the featured languages.
